1 pizza dough, store-bought or homemade1/2 cup marinara sauce, plus more for serving1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, or 8 slices fresh mozzarella8 slices pepperoni8 slices salami1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided1 tablespoon Italian seasoning1 tablespoon olive oilInstructions
To Make the Homemade Marinara Sauce
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté garlic and onion until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and oregano.
- Dice the Red Gold Whole Peeled Tomatoes, then add them with their juice to the pot. Optionally, add the tomatoes whole and use a masher to break them up.
- Lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes to 1 hour, until sauce thickens to desired consistency. Stir in fresh basil if using, then remove from heat.
To Make the Stromboli
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough into a 12x14'inch rectangle. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the sauce. Layer pepperoni and salami slices over the cheese, then sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of Parmesan.
- Carefully roll up the dough from one long side into a tight log, pinching edges to seal. Tuck in the ends.
- Place the stromboli seam-side down on the baking sheet. Brush the top with olive oil, then sprinkle remaining Parmesan and Italian seasoning.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly, then slice and serve with extra marinara for dipping.
