Our friend Riccardo shared his rich homemade tomato sauce recipe. It’s perfect for serving over angel hair or other delicate pasta as your first course (“primo” in Italian) for Sunday…
Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can Tuttorosso® Peeled Plum Tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Step one
Heat oil in large sauce pan. Sauté onions and garlic until browned.
Step two
Add tomatoes with juice, basil, oregano, salt and black pepper.
Step three
Cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes. Open lid and mash the tomatoes into a paste, pieces still visible. Cook uncovered for another 15 to 20 minutes.
Step four
Serve over your favorite type of pasta.
