A simple and versatile red sauce that is ready in 30 minutes. Fresh herbs give our San Marzano Chopped Tomatoes and Tomato Sauce even more Italian flavor for a rich sauce you can use for almost any Italian dish that needs a red sauce, or for spaghetti night.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 8 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 1 (28 ounce) can Tuttorosso® San Marzano Style Chopped Tomatoes with Sea Salt
- 1 (28 ounce) can Tuttorosso® Italian Inspirations Tomato Sauce with Basil, Garlic, and Olive Oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 5 sprigs fresh oregano, or 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
- salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step one
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly so it doesn’t burn.
Step two
Slowly pour in the chopped tomatoes and tomato sauce, add the red pepper flakes and oregano and cook for 15 minutes on medium heat. Turn down the heat and add the basil, salt, and black pepper; cook for another 5-10 minutes to thicken.
Step three
Remove from the heat, and remove the oregano sprigs and serve over your favorite pasta.
