This Creamy Tomato Basil Ditalini is rich, fast, and built on pantry staples. Ditalini pasta gets tossed in a silky tomato basil cream sauce made with Tuttorosso Tomatoes Tomato Paste with Sweet Basil, then finished with plenty of Parmesan and fresh basil. It tastes like something you’d order at a restaurant, but it’s ready in about 20 minutes. @dinner4myfam
Ingredients
- 1 package ditalini pasta (or other short pasta) 11 oz
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, for the pasta water
- 3/4 cup reserved pasta cooking water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
Step one
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente according to package directions. Before draining, scoop out and reserve 3/4 cup of the starchy pasta cooking water. Drain the pasta and set aside.
Step two
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Step three
Stir in the Tuttorosso Tomatoes Tomato Paste with Sweet Basil and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
Step four
Pour in the reserved pasta water and stir until the tomato paste loosens and forms a smooth base.
Step five
Reduce the heat to medium low and stir in the heavy cream. Simmer gently, stirring, until the sauce is combined and silky.
Step six
Add the Parmesan and stir until fully melted and the sauce is creamy.
Step seven
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss until every piece is coated in sauce. If the sauce seems too thick, add a splash more pasta water.
Step eight
Plate the pasta and top with more Parmesan and torn fresh basil leaves. Serve hot.
