A country-style cream gravy with breakfast sausage and our San Marzano Style Chopped Tomatoes for a breakfast or brunch option you will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 (28 ounce) can Tuttorosso® San Marzano Style Chopped Tomatoes with Sea Salt, drained
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup milk, 2% or whole work best

Instructions

Step one

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the sausage, breaking up into small pieces as you brown. Add the onion and cook to soften, about 8-10 minutes. Add the garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme; cook an additional 3 minutes stirring occasionally.

Step two

Sprinkle the flour over the sausage mixture and continue cooking, stirring constantly to coat the sausage, for another 2 minutes.

Step three

Stir in the tomatoes and cook for 5-6 minutes. Slowly stir in the milk and cream and bring to a simmer. Continue cooking for 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens. Taste for seasoning and adjust as needed with salt or pepper. Remove from the heat and ladle over our Tomato Cheddar Scones, warm biscuits, or toast.
