Italian Sloppy Joes

A family favorite elevated with an Italian twist. These Italian Sloppy Joe’s have familiar pizza flavors such as Italian sausage, tomato, onions, garlic, peppers and mushrooms and cheese in the convenience of a sandwich!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian turkey sausage, or regular Italian Sausage, remove casing
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 8 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 (28 ounce) can Redpack® Canned Crushed Tomato in Puree 28 oz

  • 1 (6 ounce) can Redpack® Tomato Paste Can 6 oz

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6 whole wheat buns
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach

Instructions

Step one

In a large skillet cook the sausage and ground beef; breaking into small pieces until cooked through, about 5 to 6 minutes. Add onion and garlic and cook an additional 2 minutes. Drain very well.

Step two

Add peppers, mushrooms, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, rosemary, salt and black pepper. Cover and cook on low for 25 minutes.

Step three

Sandwich Build: Place a piece of cheese on each bun.Top with meat mixture and finish with few spinach leaves.
