

This delicious Dominican Carne Guisada (beef stew) is a perfect comfort food for cool weather. Tender beef is simmered with Red Gold Roasted Garlic Tomato Paste, sofrito, and flavorful spices, creating a rich and hearty dish. Ingredients
- 1 pound beef round chunks
- 2 tablespoons sofrito
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon adobo seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon sazon seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons Red Gold® Red Gold Roasted Garlic Tomato Paste 6 oz
- 3 cups water
- 1/4 sliced onion
- 1/4 sliced red bell pepper
- 1/4 sliced green bell pepper
Instructions
Step one
In a large bowl, combine the beef chunks with sofrito, soy sauce, adobo, sazon, oregano, and lime juice. Mix well until the beef is fully coated with the seasonings.
Step two
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sugar and let it caramelize in the hot oil, stirring occasionally until it turns a golden brown.
Step three
Add the seasoned beef to the pot and cook, covered, for 15 minutes. Stir halfway through to ensure the beef browns evenly and absorbs all its juices.
Step four
Stir in the Red Gold Roasted Garlic Tomato Paste and 1 cup of water. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed.
Step five
Add another cup of water and cook for an additional 10 minutes, covered, until the liquid it mostly absorbed.
Step six
Stir in the sliced onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, along with the remaining 1 cup of water. Cover and cook for 10 more minutes, or until the sauce thickens and the vegetables are tender.
Step seven
Enjoy with white rice, avocado and plantains.
