Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 pound spicy Italian sausage, about 4 links, casings removed
1 can Red Gold® Canned Petite Diced Tomatoes 14.5 oz
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 12 count Hawaiian rolls
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella, or white cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives
Instructions
Step one
In a large skillet over medium high heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Step two
Cook the ground sausage until brown, breaking up with your spatula into tiny pieces, about 6-8 minutes.
Step three
Add the Red Gold Petite Diced Tomatoes, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and flour. Mix well and simmer for 5-6 minutes until tomato sauce is reduced by half. Remove from heat to cool 5-10 minutes.
Step four
In the meantime, slice the slider rolls in half lengthwise. Drizzle the bottom half with olive oil then broil on HIGH in the oven for 2-3 minutes, until browned.
Step five
Spoon the spicy Italian sausage mixture onto the toasted sliders, add the shredded cheese, then the top half of the rolls.
Step six
In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, basil and chives. Brush on the top of the sliders.
Step seven
Bake covered 10 minutes, then uncovered 10-12 minutes, until cheese is fully melted. Enjoy warm!
